Shall We Correct This Little Life-End Humor?
Curious Problem Ten Years Later on Eve of Detroit Lions Championship Game
To celebrate my 100th Substack column and an unusually rare Detroit sporting event, I’m offering this ten-year old live stage monologue from The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers.1
While you’re strongly urged to view the entire piece, the autobiographical show poses a comical dilemma in the final punchline.
My two teenagers encourage any and all variety of recommendations to resolve this old joke. I intend to enlist the support of ML Liebler and the Magic Poetry Band with a live performance of a song favorite, “Breaking the Voodoo,” perhaps this February 8, 2024 at Aretha’s Jazz Cafe in Detroit. Such musical wizardry should effectively remove such an aforementioned self-declared hex.
Additional suggestions and comments welcome.
To all those who began with me back in October 2022 and to every subscriber since:
Thank you for all your attentive support.
In the meantime, Go Lions!
Ten years ago, a packed house at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History seemed to enjoy the monologue memoir, including an old Detroit Lions joke on me. Now two teenagers in particular want me to break the voodoo, however self-imposed.
At this time, “Assault on Teacher (Ties that Bind)” remains one of only two YouTube videos featuring the author.
At a recent basement Lions Den Playoff Party, ten local teenagers kneel in victory formation.

Special thanks to the multi-talented and ever-active Twisted Storyteller host Satori Shakoor, now the monthly MC at the Marygrove Theater in Detroit.
