Thy Road, Thy Raft, They Comfort Me
Introduced diffidently
Side-stepping ever so lightly
We became photographs
Tucked in cards of awkward verse
Clasping thirst in the darkness,
more curtain than curse,
the ever-breakable panes
now painted in frost,
my slip, our fall,
as I immerse
into that dream horizon
silently rescinded
Savoring sorrow at such a cost.
To wander into your twilight
and the dawn after we dressed,
off the wooded pathway
wabbly in cycles of eager caress,
the wool discarded,
the feral laughter traded
for some foreseeable address,
or was it simple wailing
as I failingly confess
the fragments of your radiance
the sapphire never red
the vespers of romances fled
like an odd calico male
or lightning in December
the glance, the grin returned,
then spurned,
I (in)hale,
it will always be you
and what I remember.
